And The Big Men Fly

Alan Hopgood Alan Hopgood (as J.J'), Paul Karo (as Wally) and Dennis Miller
(as Achilles) in the MTC 1963 production.

Anyone who has encountered sporting fever anywhere knows what this play is about. It's a tall story; a yarn inspired by one of our great national pastimes, Australian Rules Football. The play captures the colourful and often comical language of the commentators, the atmosphere of the game and the roar of the crowd. The characters are 'dinky-di' and larger than life. Whether it's read aloud in class or performed, And The Big Men Fly is an extremely popular play with amateur theatre groups and secondary school students.

If this play doesn't run until the grand final, there is something wrong with the fans. A full MCG could keep this theatre packed for months. - Howard Palmer (The Sun)

You won't need to know a thing about football to get laughs at this most entertaining play. - Isabel Carter (The Herald)
